Logistics Deny Final Series Webcast At Parkville

07/22/06 - LONG BEACH, CA. - Unfortunately, after exausting all scenarios to allow the WebSports Radio broadcast team to cover the weekend series at Parkville, logistics has again prevented WSR from bringing you the games.

"I've been out of town on other business, and not able to get back in time for the broadcast," said WSR President Steve Casson. "We discussed this situation with Ozark Generals management and the posibility of travel problems, which they understand."

"We hope Generals fans understand that as a small two-person operation its been difficult the past week to juggle responsibilities necessary to bring you the final games of the season, but look forward to more Generals games next season,' said Dan Lee.

Pitcher Lucas Vestal and his relievers limited the Longhorns to just four hits on the night, while the entire Generals line up got in on the act offensively.

Taylor House opened the season with the first of three doubles in the first inning as Ozark built a 4 - 0 lead and never looked back, racking up 17 hits on Ben Davis and the rest of the overmatched Longhorn pitching staff. Errors also took their toll on Brunswick, as only 11 runs were earned.

Generals Webcast Schedule Set, Begins June 3rd

Due to the non-availability of broadcast facilities at some ball parks and schedule conflicts, WebSports Radio will air 7 games this season. An additional game could be added to the schedule at a later date.

Schedule changes include the Longhorns playing June 3rd on a date originally held by the Topeka Riverdogs, who according to Generals management, are not playing in the league this year.

Web Sports Radio: A Season To Reflect On

03/07/06 - SPRINGFIELD, MO. - When Dan and I started WSR we hoped to bring the best coverage of local sports to you -- the listener -- no matter where you were. Nothing could prepare us for the praise, accolades, and incredible experiences we encountered in just a year after starting this venture.

But all this would not have started if it wasn't for what happened during our first attempt at working together. We didn't get the job and as the saying goes: The rest is history. Click here for a portion of our "demo" audio.

Covering Ozark Tigers and Nixa Eagles High School football in 2005, to calling three sporting events (Nixa Eagles football and two Missouri State Hockey games in 24 hours, October 1st, 2005) was just the beginning.

Things continued with our coverage Missouri State Hockey all season, and the Ice Bears first ever trip to the ACHA Regional Tournament in Geneva, Illinois, grabbing an exciting 4-3 overtime win.

The following week WSR brought you exclusive coverage of ALL the 2005-2006 Mid America Collegiate Hockey Association Tournament games, February 25th and 26th in Danville, Illinois. Six games total broadcast in 24 hours, with four games in 12 hours on Saturday.

This year we expect to bring you bigger and better innovations including a way for you to listen to WSR broadcasts live on your portable radio as you watch the sporting event. Additionally, we anticipate big things happening with Missouri State Hockey, and a new partnership to cover the MACHA league tournament again.

WSR is also looking at the possibility of covering other events, including baseball and motor sports.

WSR To Webcast Eleven Generals Baseball Games

04/03/06 - OZARK, MO. - Increasing it's coverage of local sports in Southwest Missouri, WebSports Radio has tentatively agreed to webcast at least 11 Ozark Generals baseball games during the 2006 season. (See WSR Schedule)

The Generals, formerly the Springfield Generals, will move into the MINK (Missouri, Iowa, Nebraska, Kansas) Baseball League.

Described as a highly competitive wood bat league that provides a place for collegiate players to showcase and develop their talents in a positive baseball environment both on and off the field -- with the hope of becoming future Major League baseball players -- the Generals are replacing the St. Joseph Saints, who have folded to make way for another professional baseball team.

The club has nearly 44 games scheduled from June, 2nd through July, 22nd, with 25 of those games to be played at Price Cutter Park (the former home of the Ozark Mountain Ducks) in Ozark, Missouri.

According to the team website, the Ozark Generals will play a few non-league games at it's former home, Meador Park in Springfield.

Other teams in the league include the Chillicothe Mudcats, Blue Springs Grays, Joplin Slashers, Clarinda (Iowa) Slashers, Beatrice (Nebraska) Bruins, Topeka Golden Giants, Nevada Griffons, Mid-Missouri Crawdads, and the Parkville Sluggers.

Missouri State's Season Closes With Banquet/Game

04/02/06 - SPRINGFIELD, MO. - An exciting hockey season came to an end with the Fifth Annual Missouri State Hockey Players Game and Award Banquet on Saturday. About 50 friends and family showed up to see the Players (current Missouri State rostered players) beat the Alumni 19-6, although the scoreboard showed 23-23 as the final buzzer sounded.

I had a chance to play goalie for the "players" side as we faced the "alumni" team. The first period was close, 2-1 in favor of the players. I stopped a few shots, (see photo to the right) while trading time every 10 minutes with Ice Bears regular goalie Michael Poepping.

Things opened up in the second period as the Players put 12 goals on the board. I gave up one, and the score was 14-2 after two periods.

At the Awards and Recognition Banquet later in the evening, WebSports Radio was given the Ice Bears 2005/2006 Media Award for promoting Ice Bears hockey. Dan and I are honored by it and were completely surprised.

Player awards for Offensive Player of the Year went to Dan Odenwald. Defensive Player of the Year was awarded to Clayton Baker who also picked up the Scholar Athlete of the Year award.

There was a tie for the 110% Performance Award as Josh Conlin and goaltender Michael Brown were praised for their contributions to the team. The "Andy Marquart" award for all around person on and off the ice went to Senior Andy Werkmeister.

The final award for the varsity team was another tie. Seniors Dan Odenwald and Andy Hellwig were both voted as team Most Valuable Players.

This was the first year the JV team had awards handed out. The 110% Performance Award went to Andy Panullo. The MVP Award was given to Defenseman Dan Ragon who played the last three games in goal when the Varsity team took three goalies to the ACHA and MACHA Playoffs.

Please note that only some of the pages have been updated, and you will still see old pages mixed with new pages. The remaining pages will be updated and implemented in the next few weeks.

Hockey Games This Weekend Are Canceled!

11/17/05 - SPRINGFIELD, MO. - WebSports Radio has learned that the weekend series between Missouri State and Palmer College at Jordan Valley Ice Park in Springfield will not be played. It's the third time in three years a team has backed out a week before they were scheduled to meet the Ice Bears.

"To say the word 'disappointed' doesn't even come close to say how we feel about having to cancel the games," said Missouri State Ice Bears General Manager Stan Melton today.

Fans with tickets for this weekend can exchange them for any remaining home game.

"While we are disappointed to see Palmer College not come to Springfield this weekend, we made a major effort to recruit a team to fill the void," explained Melton. Several teams were contacted and many were either playing in tournaments or off for the Thanksgiving holidays.

During the 2003-2004 season it was Middle Tennessee State who did not show up for their games with the Ice Bears.

Then again during the 2004-2005 season the University of Illinois, Chicago was not able to play a pair of hockey games with the Ice Bears.

Not having games this weekend puts a big dent in several events that were planned. Friday night was intended to be Ladies Night along with the second tailgating party of the season at the Shrine Mosque, which will have to be rescheduled.

The Ice Bears next games will be against the University of Oklahoma in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma the weekend of December 2nd and 3rd. WSR will have the games live for you starting at 7:20pm (CST).

WebSports Radio.com To Webcast Southwest Missouri State Ice Bears Hockey

05/19/05 - SPRINGFIELD, MO - DS Sports has reached a tentative agreement with the Southwest Missouri State University Hockey Club to webcast at least 28 of the Ice Bear’s 33 regular season games for 2005-06 beginning in October.

“We are very proud to be Springfield’s first ice hockey team in history and we’re equally proud to be Springfield's first ice hockey team with regular season coverage,” said Stan Melton, General Manager of the SMSU Hockey Club.

By using the internet, listeners and fans of the Ice Bears will be able to keep up with the team from anywhere in the world.

“We are thrilled to be working with an outstanding and very professional organization like WebSports Radio.com,” said Melton. “It’s going to be great for fans, players, and ice hockey in general to make our games available through the internet.”

Several exclusive features will be available on WebSports Radio.com. "An archive of SMS games will allow fans who missed the initial live broadcast to listen to the game in its entirety, and at their leisure," said WebSports Radio.com President and co-founder Steve Casson.

“The web site will be arranged so fans can go straight to the re-broadcast without knowing the outcome first,” explains Vice President and co-founder Dan Lee. “We will also provide player rosters, profiles, pictures and stats that will add to the listening enjoyment during the game. There are a lot of advantages to doing a game via the net as opposed to radio, and we plan to bring as many as possible into play.”

The first Ice Bears webcast will also be the first meeting of any kind between the University of Missouri and SMS who will by then be the renamed Missouri State University. That game is scheduled for Saturday, October 1st in Jefferson City, Missouri.

Other webcast games on the schedule include the St. Cloud State University Tournament in Minnesota and road games in Oklahoma City and Ames, Iowa.

"Hopefully we can bring even more games to the schedule," said Casson referring to the Ice Bears making the playoffs and ACHA National Tournament.

WebSports Radio's pregame show will air 10 minutes prior to the opening faceoff with Steve Casson and Dan Lee bringing you the webcasts.
