The Ozark Generals are 12-11 overall and 9-9 in Missouri, Illinois, Nebraska, Kansas (MINK) League play. They play in the National Baseball Congress Regional tournament starting Saturday through July 2nd.

Drew Kellums Wins Game For Generals in 9th Inning

06/22/07 - OZARK, MO - Facing a tough opponent in the Oklahoma A's, the Ozark Generals used a bottom of the 9th lead off home run from catcher Drew Kellums to beat the A's, 3-2 at Price Cutter Park.

The Generals trailed 1-0 when the A's Kolby Williams doubled in Tyler Johnson, who walked (one of 4 given up by Generals starting pitcher Brian Carr) in the 2nd inning.

Ozark tied the game in the bottom of the 5th when Kellums singled, a sacrifice by Mike Sanchez moved Kellums to second, Kyle Bubak walked, Taylor House was hit by A's pitcher Josh Rorex (in relief of starter Jared Mixon) to load the bases, and an error by A's shortstop Mitch Worley scored Kellums. Then the Generals took a 2-1 lead on a single by Kyle Superaint to score Bubak.

Oklahoma tied the game in the 7th inning on a single by Ryan Bowen to score Joe Nard, but the inning ended when Bowen was called for runner interference when Tyler Johnson hit into a potential double play -- was initially called safe -- but the second base umpire agreed with Superaint's plea for interference.

The A's drop to 6-2 overall and the Generals improve to 11-8. Zac Kinnison gets the win for the Generals, who had 5 hits and left 5 on base. Jordan Semore notched the loss for Oklahoma. The A's had managed 6 hits and recorded one error.

Ozark (9-5 in MINK) managed 6 hits in the game, but scored 3 runs in the first -- starting with three singles in a row from Taylor House, Justin Brown and Kyle Superaint -- who's hit scored House. Then Mike Rector's sacrifice fly scored Brown, and BJ Underkofler's single brought Superaint home for a 3-0 lead.

The Generals continued the scoring in the 2nd when Mathew Stevens singled then Mudcats starting pitcher Korey Cunningham walked House and Brown. David Mann's single scored Stevens and House, and the Generals had a 5-0 lead.

Ellington grabbed his third win of the season while striking out 3 batters in 5 innings, but left after loading the bases in the bottom of the 6th -- and a two run single to centerfield by Casey Gibson gave the Mudcats (7-9) two runs to break the shut out -- which chased Ellington. Zak Kinnison gets the save in relief.

The Mudcats (2-7 in MINK) left runners in scoring position in the 3rd, 4th, and 5th innings and they had runners on the corners with two outs in the bottom of the 7th, but the tying run of Ben Toedebusch struck out to end the inning, and the threat. Chillicothe had 7 hits in the game.

Generals Grab Early Lead But Can't Hang On

06/17/07 - OZARK, MO - Generals Head Coach Rusty Aton said he was confident this year's team was a better hitting squad than last year, what he didn't count on was an off night from the bull pen and his infield during a 15-8 loss to the Clarinda A's at Price Cutter Park.

In the top of the 3rd, Clarinda (16-7) used an error by second baseman Justin Brown to jump past Ozark (who had a 4-3 lead going into the top of the 3rd inning) by scoring 6 runs on 5 hits for a 9-4 advantage.

The Generals got two runs back in the bottom of the 4th on an error by starting (and winning) pitcher Jeff Phillips who threw to first base hitting Taylor House, allowing Bo Witaker to score. Brown scored on Mike Sanchez' hit up the middle, but House was thrown out at home trying to score. Ozark still trailed 9-6.

Clarinda scored two runs in the top of the 5th on an error by shortstop Kyle Superaint but the Generals returned the favor with one run in the bottom of the inning thanks to A's shortstop Jimmy Swifts' error -- but left the bases loaded when Mathew Stevens hit into a double play -- and left the Generals trailing 11-7.

Ozark did manage one run in the bottom of the 7th on first baseman Brock Spangerberg's error but left runners on first and second. Josh Underkofler came in relief of Alec Marsh (who went 2-1/3 innings giving up 5 runs and is given the loss) and saw the A's bat around in the 8th getting 4 runs to put the game away for Clarinda.

Ozark's Mike Rector went 3 for 5 with an RBI and three singles.

Ozark Splits Doubleheader with Clarinda

06/16/07 - OZARK, MO - It was the Clarinda A's turn to come to the Generals home turf, and Ozark split a double header with their MINK league foes. Game one (both games went 7 innings) went to the Generals, a 1-0 battle, with Ryan Robinson (2-1) grabbing the win.

The A's Tod Vogal gets the loss as Clarinda managed just 3 hits, although the Generals got its lone run on 4 hits. Cole White picks up the save for Ozark.

Zeros were exchanged in game two with Clarinda shutting out Ozark 3-0. The Generals had 4 hits and Phoenix, Arizona's Derek Bond takes the loss. The A's Grant Campbell records the win with Clarinda managing 7 hits.

The Generals improve to 8-6 over all and 7-4 in MINK league play. They play Clarinda in the rubber match of the series Sunday at 1pm.

Generals Finally Get To Play One At Home This Week

06/15/07 - OZARK, MO - Home after a long road trip and a Wednesday rain out in Ozark, the Generals faced the Pine Bluff Braves at Price Cutter Park Friday and they came away with a convincing 12-2 win.

With the game scoreless, Ozark sent 11 batters to the plate in the 3rd and scored 5 runs on 5 hits in the inning, including 4 runs on the first 4 hits. The 4th inning was more of the same as Pine Bluff's pitcher Terrance Davis gave up 5 more runs on 4 Generals hits and 2 errors, to trail 10-0 through 5 innings.

The Braves picked up one run in the 6th inning after a pitch from Generals relief pitcher Brian Carr got past catcher BJ Underkofler with a runner on 3rd. Ozark returned the favor with two runs (on a wild pitch by Davis and an error) after batting around again in the bottom of the 6th inning to give the Generals a 12-1 lead.

Ozark (7-5) needed those runs which allowed the game to fall under the 10-run rule which automatically gives the leading team the win if they lead by 10 runs after 7 innings.

In the top of the 7th Pine Bluff did score one run on an error by third baseman Bo Witaker, but Carr closed out the inning to preserve the win.

Drury University's Blair Ellington (2-0), who pitched a one hitter through 5 innings, gets the win. Carr is credited with the save. Davis takes the loss for the Braves.

Ozark's runs came on 12 hits and 5 Braves errors, while Pine Bluff had 3 hits on one error. Generals centerfielder Taylor House lead the team with 3 hits (2 doubles, a single and a walk) in 4 at-bats, scoring 2 runs.
