Round 3: WSR's unofficial D2 Central Region poll

Steve and Dan have decided to add one more spot because of the effect Lindenwood Belleville’s ineligibility will have on the final regional playoff picture. The 11th-place team will go to the tournament this year, so why not add them to our rankings?

You’re welcome!

As usual, Steve and Dan have made out their polls independent of each other and the average scores are presented below. But now, the points are awarded 11 for first, 10 for second, etc. down to one point for 11th place. Enjoy!

Round 2: WSR's unofficial D2 Central Region poll

11/27/14 - SPRINGFIELD, MO - This year fellow WSR broadcaster Dan Lee and I have thought through, agonized over, and deliberated on putting our minds against the pollsters of the American Collegiate Hockey Association Division II elite.

While we take pride in not falling flat on our face during the first round of picks, confidence is building for round two.

Before sharing our second-round poll results there are many things to be thankful for during this Thanksgiving holiday including friends and family.

I'm thankful for the opportunity to play the game of hockey at an early age and that I'm able to broadcast the sport I also enjoy watching. Dan is thankful that he only has to put up with me for 20 broadcasts a season.

So, here it is: Round two of our latest prognostications involving the ACHA Division II Central Region.

Ice Bears and Lynx clash in battle of No. 1 and No. 4

11/14/14 - SPRINGFIELD, MO - Another undefeated team and another winning streak intact as the Lindenwood-Belleville Lynx survived a late rush by the Missouri State Ice Bears to capture its 16th consecutive victory taking a 6-4 contest over the Ice Bears.

Missouri State (12-6-0-1) trailed 5-1 before Ryan Hogland notched a pair of goals — one on the power play and another shorthanded — then Matt Townsend tipped Jusso Halmeenmaki's shot from the left point to close the gap at 5-4.

Brandon Janke gave Lindenwood-Belleville (No. 1 in ACHA Division 2) a two-goal lead with 7:48 remaining on the powerplay, but the Ice Bears kept the pressure on Lynx goaltender Kyle Miller. Missouri State (No. 4 in ACHA Division 2) added 17 shots on Miller in the third for a three period total of 42, while Justin Davis faced 36 Lynx shots for the Ice Bears.

Loss ends Springfield's 5 game winning streak

11/07/14 - SPRINGFIELD, MO - Two shorthanded goals by Matt Levene and power play goals from Petr Kobes were more than enough to give the Oklahoma City Jr Blazers a 4-2 win over the Springfield Express Nov. 7 in game one at Mediacom Ice Park.

Vito Divito scored the opening goal of the game for the Express taking Quade Hamlin's pad from behind the net to put it past Jakub Krejci at 8:09 of the first period.

Nikita Perviakov notched his second goal of the season on a pass from Linus Dahlberg, moved to his right, then lifted the puck over Krejci's shoulder with 7:42 to play in the second period.

Krejci faced 56 shots stopping 52 as Springfield attempted to get closer late in the second and third periods but couldn't capitalize. Express net minder Oliver Eklund saw 42 shots from the Jr Blazers.

10/31/14 - SPRINGFIELD, MO - A one-goal hockey game game changed in the blink of an eye allowing the University of Central Oklahoma (15-0) to show why they are No. 1 in the latest ACHA Division 1 poll with a 6-2 win of the Missouri State Ice Bears at Mediacom Ice Park.

The Bronchos used a pair of power play goals to take a two-goal lead and eventually the win over the No. 4 ranked (ACHA Division 2) Ice Bears (11-4) in the opening game of the series.

Brendan McClew was called for interference after he and Bronchos goaltender Tory Caldwell raced for the puck at the top of the right faceoff circle. Both players collided and a 5-minute major was assessed to McClew with 11:17 left in the second period.

Brad Keenan scored the opening goal 18 seconds into the contest, but left in the first period after injuring his knee. Jusso Halmeenmaki notched the second goal for Missouri State on the power play late in the first period, although Adam Otten was given credit on the score sheet.

It's back: WSR's unofficial D2 Central Region poll

10/30/14 - SPRINGFIELD, MO - Now that Steve Casson is no longer an official pollster for the ACHA Division II hockey elite, the door has been opened to re-launch the popular WebSportsRadio.com poll!

As before, Casson will be joined by fellow WSR broadcaster Dan Lee. The pair have a combined sports journalism history in excess of 55 years, including stints by both men as newspaper sports editors and sports program directors.

They will team up to share their opinions and argue incessantly over who should be members of the all important top 10 of the ACHA Division II Central Region.

Here is it, after a six-year absence: The 2014 version of the WebSportsRadio Division 2 unscientific poll.
