Missouri State Ice Bears Vs Eastern Illinois Panthers - Game 2

09/13/14 - SPRINGFIELD, MO. - Things were no different in game two for the Ice Bears as Brendan McClew scored four goals including the first of the contest during a 13-2 win over the Eastern Illinois Panthers.

Miguel Franco and Adam Otten had two goals with single tallies from Jack Ryan, Kyle Brown, Alex Nanna, Matt Townsend and Adam Thrower.

McClew notched the Ice Bears' opening goal 3:08 into the game on a pass from Richard Westcott that originated from the left face off near the wall. McClew, skating down the slot, burried it into the top right corner of the net.

A fast-paced game gave way to a chipper contest late in the game with the only goal in the third period from the Panthers' Steve Kinnison, who placed a shot over Ice Bears' goaltender Steve Lombardo with 5:05 to play.

Lombardo earns the win on 18 shots and Zach Peifer takes the loss after facing 58 shots.

Missouri State played without Ryan Hogland, Bobby Brown, P.J. Adams and Mitch Fernsler, who were attending a funeral. Brad Keenan was attending a wedding.

McClew leads the Ice Bears with seven goals, Jack Ryan has six. Jusso Halmeenmaki and Eric Aldag top players with seven assists each.

Players with two-game goal scoring streaks: Ryan, Franco, McClew, Nanna.

Missouri State was 1 for 5 on the power play and is 8 for 13 (61.5%) this season. The Ice Bears have killed all 13 opponent opportunities (100%) and has scored 5 shorthanded goals.

09/12/14 - SPRINGFIELD, MO. - Opening night of the 2014-15 season foreshadowed what kind of a team the Missouri State Ice Bears will be this year with a 22-0 win over the Eastern Illinois Panthers.

Miguel Franco scored the first goal of the season 6:51 into the game on a tip of P. J. Adams' shot from the left point.

Offensively, the Ice Bears had a field day on Panther goaltender Zach Peifer sending 63 shots on net. Senior forward Jack Ryan tallied five goals and assisted on four more.

Several players had multiple point nights including the defensive core. Eric Aldag and Nick Sadorf added four assists and Bobby Brown led the defense with five.

Brendan McClew had a hat trick, with Ryan Hogland, Alex Nanna and Justin Buchheit scoring two goals each.

Andrew Kovacich, Alex Turin, Jusso Halmeenmakl, Brian Leslie, Kellen Patrick, Brad Keenan and Adams had a goal each.

Missouri State set a team record with three shorthanded goals on the same Panther power play when Patrick, Keenan and McClew notched goals in 54 seconds between 16:39 and 15:45 left in the second period.

Justin Davis faces 12 shots earning his eighth career shut out with the Ice Bears.
