WolfPack Have New Website Address

02/15/08 - SPRINGFIELD, MO - Due to circumstances beyond the control of the Springfield WolfPack, the team is forced to change the web extension of the official website.

To reach the new WolfPack site go to www.springfieldwolfpack.net

Still in it's infancy, the website is undergoing changes, and should be ready for the 2008 indoor football season scheduled for April 2008.

WolfPack Win Exhibition Game But Playoffs Is Another Story

07/07/07 - SPRINGFIELD, MO - The Springfield WolfPack played a benefit game for the Boys & Girls Club of Springfield Saturday night and came away with a 58-12 win over the Topeka Tornadoes at Jordan Valley Ice Park.

"I'd like to travel to Kansas," said WolfPack Head Coach Terry Edwards after the game with the Tornadoes, referring to the playoff situation. WSR has learned that league officials are sticking with their notion that during the league meetings at the beginning of the season it was stated the playoffs would be a three team playoff, "as it has been in the past seasons."

We have also learned that a phone conversation may take place Sunday to discuss the possibility of having Springfield be part of the playoffs to play Kansas. The Koyotes 26-12 win over Conroe puts them in first place, and as things stand now, assures a bye in the first round of the 2007 playoffs.

Football Playoffs For WolfPack Still Undecided

07/03/07 - SPRINGFIELD, MO - Still waiting to find out their fate in the 2007 APFL Playoffs, the Springfield WolfPack will have to wait another week to see where and if they will be playing in the post season.

With Iowa (7-3) avenging an earlier loss in the season to Conroe (8-1), the Blackhawks forced five turnovers, including four interceptions to beat the Storm 48-14 on June 30th, and change things in the chase for first place.

It now comes down to the July 7th game between Kansas (7-1) -- who hosts Conroe -- with the winner (if Kansas wins by 4 or more points) earning the top spot in the APFL and home field advantage through out the playoffs and the Championship game.

What also remains to be seen is if the league will provide a three team or four team playoff system this year. Several media in other APFL cities cite a three team playoff, but WebSports Radio was told -- at media day for the WolfPack in April -- that four teams made the playoffs.

No official announcement has been made by the APFL, but WSR did speak with league officials who said member teams would be contacted and a decision would be made regarding the playoff situation.

Springfield will host a benefit game with the Topeka Tornadoes on July 7th at Jordan Valley Ice Park. Admission is $7 with all proceeds going to the Boys and Girls Club of Springfield. Anyone interested in playing for the WolfPack, becoming a cheerleader, or working with the team is urged to come to the game and talk with team management.

Unfortunately, WebSports Radio will not be covering the game Saturday as the schedule was set in April and other commitments would not allow us to accomodate this change with such short notice.

BlackHawks Become Big Puzzle For WolfPack Saturday

05/25/07 - SPRINGFIELD, MO - With a 2-3 record (thanks to a win over Omaha and a forfeit by Ft. Worth), the Springfield WolfPack find themselves back in the playoff picture going into this week’s home stand against the Iowa Blackhawks. But the Blackhawks (2-2) come in riding the coat tails of their biggest win so far, a 50-32 convincer over the four time defending champion Kansas Koyotes.

Iowa avenged an earlier 27-20 overtime loss to the Koyotes, and now see themselves as legitimate APFL league championship contenders. Head Coach Mike Wolff has built a well-balanced offense that can strike quickly from the air or slowly gobble up the land and the clock. Together with a thieving secondary that produced five Kansas turnovers, Iowa looks to be primed for a run.

Running back Elijah Simmons rushed for four short yardage touchdowns as he and George Patterson combined for 50 yards once Wolff put the ball control offense in place. But it was the arm of quarterback Chuck Wright (10/18, 108 yards, 2 TD) that launched Iowa to the win. Wright threw only three passes in the second half. Ryan Kauffman and Steve Rush are Wright’s favorite targets, although Wright does spread it around. He found four different targets against Kansas, and 7 different receivers in an impressive 74 - 20 win over the Missouri Minutemen. In that game, Iowa scored on its first 11 possessions.

The Blackhawks appear to be an all-or-nothing type of defense, and are not impregnable. While forcing five turnovers, the Blackhawks still gave up 273 yards of offense to the Koyotes, including 255 yards passing. There will be openings for Springfield quarterback Chris Glenn and key targets Brett Lovekamp, Charlie Cloud, as well as Paul Hansen and Jarrett Shuey. But they will have to be careful as defensive backs Deidrick Washington and Scott Yates can cover some ground quickly.

The WolfPack have improved steadily while making constant improvements to the line-up. Picking up running back Lee Coleman against Omaha proved to be a boon, and the good news continues as speedster Derron Dixon, who was injured on his first carry of the season, is expected to return. The WolfPack have also picked up two more players who may have an impact this week.

One thing the Blackhawks have not done this year is win on the road, while the WolfPack have played their best ball at home.

"Extreme" Change In Plans For Saturday's Football Game

05/10/07 - SPRINGFIELD, MO - WebSports Radio has learned that the Fort Worth Regulators Indoor Football team will not be traveling to Springfield to meet the WolfPack for Saturday's home game at Jordan Valley Ice Park, but according to Omaha's website the Extreme will be here.

News from the Extreme website says it will be the teams first ever game and that the team has been practicing for two months to be ready to play in the APFL.

An email from the Regulators was received by WSR today from a Will Williams (who identified himself as a member of the media, although WolfPack management says Williams is the owner), stating the APFL had scheduled another team in the Regulators place. As of May 9th the Regulators website has been taken down.

An excerpt from the email is as follows: "We (did) look forward to playing the WolfPack but have had to deal with a lot of things not planned for this season(. We) have done what no one thought would be possible to get our team together in 2 and (a) half months, but the loss of a home venue did more damage to what was still a very tough fight."

WSR has been aware the Regulators have had home scheduling problems, but according Darcy Childs, APFL commissioner, Ft. Worth was going to be primarily a traveling team this year; but the email to WSR states the Regulators will play 3 road games the rest of the season and shutdown operations so the team can come back at full strength next season.

The Regulators did not say which teams they would play on the road.

WolfPack Hope For Better Result On Road Trip To Kansas

05/05/07 - TOPEKA, KS - Our thoughts and prayers are with the residents of the southwest Kansas town of Greenburg, who suffered through a devastating tornado (reports put it at an "F-5") that ripped across the town killing at least 9 people. It was something that was unexpected.

Football Rivalry With Missouri Starts Tonight In Springfield

04/28/07 - SPRINGFIELD, MO - It could become a big rivalry in American Professional Football League, when the Missouri Minutemen travel south to Springfield and meet the WolfPack in the first game between the two this season.

With a 57-0 loss on April 14th to Conroe behind them, the WolfPack (0-1) hope to answer the swirling questions asked of a start-up franchise team, and prove they are not a rogue sports team, but one that will be in Springfield for a while.

It's probable Head Coach Terry Edwards will start quarterback Chris Glenn (6' / 200 lbs) tonight, but the decision between Glenn or Aaron Hobson (6'-2" /220 lbs) may be determined just before game time. Shawn Nevills will have some hefty shoes to fill at wide receiver after Deron Dixon went down on the first play against Conroe. Another decision for Edwards to make is who will help Stanley Harris at running back. The speedster was also injured during the first game of the season.

The Minutemen will start Rookie QB Christopher Marmet (6'-2" / 210 lbs) out of Bethel College in Kansas. Although Missouri is 2-0 in pre-season games, they have yet to be tested in the APFL. Both the WolfPack and Minutemen are new to the league this year.

WebSportsRadio.com will have all the action for you live starting at 6:45pm tonight with the pre-game show. And don't forget you can listen live to the broadcast inside Jordan Valley Ice Park on 99.1 FM on your portable radio.

Well, Jordan Valley Ice Park's transformation from an Ice Rink into a football field will be completed on Thursday, April 26, and the team will hold a public “Meet-N-Greet” from 6-8 p.m. A Springfield first, this event will give fans a chance to see the new home of the Wolfpack and to meet the WolfPack players and Lady WolfPack cheerleaders.

Looking to show your Pack Pride? Some PP gear will be available, and you'll be able to grab season tickets or pickup up the passes you've already ordered. Individual game tickets will also be available, but you better hurry the place is going to be a sell out.

The WolfPack, who lost their first game of the season 0-57, are trying to heal from a weekend that saw running back Darron Dixon and free safety Stan Harris leave the game with injuries before the game was 5 minutes old.

Dixon says he suffered a broken fibula and initial reports say he will miss 4 to 6 weeks. "The first team I come back against will have heck to pay," he explained.

Just two days later the excitement will culminate at 7:05pm in JVIP with the Pack's first ever home opener April 28th against the Missouri Minutemen.

WolfPack Open The 2007 Indoor Football Season On Road

04/14/07 - CONROE, TX - Battling the weather and a host of other problems, the Springfield WolfPack football team trekked down to Conroe, Texas and the Lone Star Expo Center for a game with Conroe Storm.

Hopefuls Tryout For Spot On Springfield WolfPack Roster

03/17/07 - SPRINGFIELD, MO - Twenty-seven men flooded into the O’Reilly-Teft gym in Springfield this past Saturday, hoping to win a place on the WolfPack indoor football team. The new recruits were sent through a dizzying array of tests intended to measure speed, quickness, stamina, and coordination, with Head Coach Terry Edwards and his staff of coaches and returning veterans scrutinizing their every move.

A quarter of the way through, coach Edwards was wondering what he'd gotten himself into. “Is this all there is?”, he questioned.

By the time all was said and done however, he was singing a much happier tune. He believes 15 of the 27 had met the challenge and proven themselves worthy of consideration for a spot on the WolfPack roster.

WolfPack Head Coach Terry Edwards interviews a potential football player

Now Edwards must face the unenviable task of paring the total number of qualified rookies and veterans down to the required American Professional Football League roster.

Ron Robinson at tryouts

“The only bad news,” said Edwards, “Is that there were enough good new guys that I might have to cut some veterans.”

Although considered rookies, some of the hopefuls who came to test were not rookies at all. Most were former college and high school players. Some, like former Springfield Rifle fullback Ron Robinson, have seen their share of turf wars. “I like to get the tough yard,” said Robinson, who moves with surprising speed and agility for a big man. “I just like playing”.

From as experienced as 39 years of age to fresh out of high school, all the newbies shared a common longing to keep their personal love of the game alive.

Come Monday morning (after Edwards and company make final cuts), some of them will succeed in doing just that. Then comes the real test: less than a month of practice before the season-opening road trip to Conroe, Texas.

Lady WolfPak (L to R) Brandi Silvey, Tesia Davis, and Mallory Waugh were on hand to cheer recruits

Brandon Hyder, a returning linebacker for the WolfPack, can’t wait. Hyder, now 25, had to put a promising career on hold up until last year.

“I had to leave football for a little while to help take care of my family,” said the Marshfield stand-out. “I’ve been with the team for two years now, and I’m very happy to be given another chance to play. It’s really tough sometimes to work a full time job and then get yourself into the gym to work out everyday, even in the off season, but it’s worth it.”
